Green Greenie

Trying to figure out how to balance my new found love of going green with my old habit of living life however I please ;)

I love that Going Green and the movement to make less of an impact on the earth is such a HUGE deal right now. It is great that eco-awareness is touching people who had previously no thoughts on the subject (me being one of those people).
In an effort to better myself, (*my New Year’s resolution was to become a better person) I am trying to make 100 green changes in my life. I have been doing my research on the subject and have found several people doing so much more than I would ever think to do…
Here are the green steps this Greenie Gal has taken thus far ;)
-
Switched all bill pay to online.
-
Joined Green Dimes to help stop junk mail and plant trees.
-
Given up buying any new gift wrapping products (except for tape).
-
Vowed to only purchase used books (unless Nursing School mandates otherwise).
-
Gone against everything my dad taught me about getting ready for work in the morning and stopped warming up my car.
-
I am only washing my clothes in COLD water from now on. (this gets a little sketchy with my scrubs from work– you never know what mysterious brown spots may have in them)
-
I vow from here on out only to dry my clothes once in the dryer. No more forget and fluff.
-
I will carry reusabe chopsticks with me rather than go through a pair each time I crave sushi.
-
Made Goodsearch my go to search engine.
-
Gotten my own CSA subscription ;)

Here are some of mine that I have started this year…
1. once a week I put a box of books (I have a TON) out in front of my house with a note that says, “free to a good home” in the hopes that other people will read them and enjoy them and not buy a book for another week.
2. I am composting!!! Not a lot, but I am. Dryer lint, coffee grinds, veggies and other lil things.
3. I work in a big animal hospital and I take a pile of paper from our recycling can and cut it in half, staple along top and make scratch paper pads. Sometimes I write a note with a little doodle on the front and give it to a coworker. They always use them and are always grateful!
4. Replaced all the light bulbs with those green energy star ones.
5. Got a space heater for my bedroom and keep the heat for the rest of the house down.
6. Yes I am timing my showers… and brushing my teeth in the shower while rinsing off my shampoo/conditioner.
7. MY BIGGEST CHANGE is that I am cleaning the house with green cleaners and vinegar/water/baking soda. With 3 dogs, a cat a 13 year old and a muddy back yard I clean ALOT!
More to come… change for me is slooooow.
ps I think I may post this!
